The pretty riverside town of Marlow is located just 3 miles away. Its most famous landmark is the 19th century suspension bridge, designed by William Tierney Clark, who used a similar design for his bridge linking Buda and Pest in Hungary. The town offers a vast array of independent shops, cafes, bars and restaurants plus lovely riverside walks. Every June the Marlow Town Regatta and Festival takes place providing two days of rowing and entertainment.
Four miles to the west of The Dog & Badger lies the historic town of Henley-on-Thames. The first recorded history of Henley dates back to 1179 when King Henry II bought land for ‘the making of buildings.’
Henley’s historic centre is just a few minutes walk from The River Thames from where you can walk along the Thames Path, hire a rowing or motor boat or just relax and watch the world go by.
The most famous event taking place in Henley is probably the Royal Regatta. This is a major event in the English ‘season’ and one of the most celebrated regattas in the world attracting the finest international rowers and crews. There are also many other annual events taking place both in the town and within a short travelling distance.

Royal Ascot. Another major event in the summer ‘Season’, this race meeting attracts many of the worlds finest racehorses.
The Queen has attended every Royal Meeting during her reign.
Henley Swim Events. Four events are held catering for experienced open water swimmers and swimming enthusiasts trying open water swimming for the first time.
Henley Festival – a five-day festival taking place during the week after and on the site of the Royal Regatta. The festival offers something on the main stage for every taste from the music of George Gershwin to Jesse J. It also offers a wide range of entertainment including comedy, dance and street theatre. Each evening ends with a spectacular firework display.

There is a wealth of cycling routes around Medmenham making The Dog & Badger the perfect place to stop for a well earned rest and fortifying meal and drink. This is also a perfect place to spend a weekend cycling in the beautiful Chiltern countryside and enjoying the local sites. At the end of the day you can return for a relaxing evening enjoying great food and wine and a good nights sleep in one of our sumptuous beds.
There is a wide choice of local walks to suit all levels within the vicinity of The Dog and Badger. The Hambleden & Medmenham circular walk is a pretty 5.5 mile walk right on our doorstep. The lovely walk from Marlow to Henley is part of the Thames Path National Trail. Alternatively explore the surrounding Chiltern countryside and the beautiful Hambleden valley.
